Dallas, Texas is a supremely ugly place. Seen from the air, as you approach the ground looks like dusty desert land covered with shrubs and dark brown mud. with the occasional parking lot. The only reprieve is that all the houses (in the good neighborhoods) have swimming pools. Occasional small lakes that look like puddles from the plane. Dry flat land, no mountains in sight. A place that looks less like Vancouver, BC is hard to imagine.
I can't understand why anybody would live in such an unflattering place. Especially Canadians. Many of the Texas residents on this plane, live in Dallas but come from Vancouver! Why? I just don't get it.
I am in Dallas, Texas because I have to transfer here to get on my plane to London. It was the cheapest flight I could find.
A sign in front of me reads "Bless The U.S. Troops!"
It is written with chalk on a dusty window.
U.S. news - CNN, I think - blares on in the background about the Middle East.
A little girl is being a complete brat, screaming louder than any kid I've had the misfortune to be around in years. Thank God for my noise reduction headphones and my iPod, though even they don't drown out all of this nuisance.
In the next half hour presumably I will be able to leave this sunny, desolate wasteland.
note: I wrote this like a week ago, but for reasons I will get into if you keep reading, I haven't been able to post this or my first London blog. until now.
